News  Fund-raiser is Symphony of Sights, Sounds, Tastes

The setting, the sounds and the savory fare served to overload the senses at an April 2nd's fund-raiser for the North Arkansas Symphony.

A glorious view of the sunset from Gregg Ogden’s hilltop estate on North Hunter Drive provided the perfect atmosphere for a performance by guest pianist Awadagin Pratt, whose talents were featured during the symphony’s April 3 and 4 concerts.

At Ogden’s, Pratt, of Normal, Ill., played works by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Frederick Chopin, wowing symphony supporters with his skills and musical prowess.

Guests paid $125 each to attend; their investments will help ensure the symphony can continue to provide quality cultural entertainment.

Music director Jeannie Wager said the symphony has already performed 30 different musical programs during the 2003-04 season, a challenging feat. The more concerts are scheduled.

Catering Concepts Inc. rolled out its best for the event with mouthwatering specialties such as herb-crusted pork tenderloin skewers; chilled fresh asparagus with tomato bacon dip; butter croissants rolled with Black Forest ham , Swiss cheese and horseradish mustard; a display of seasonal fruits; cheeses and gourmet sausages with Dijon dip; sliced roasted chicken breast on petite rolls, and marinated shrimp with basil, garlic and peppers. Sweets included assorted pastries and chocolate-dipped strawberries.
